Associated condition:
- Pain and tenderness of plantar surface of the heads of the metatarsal bones or metatarsal joints
- Swelling on top of the metatarsal joint
- Callus formed under the prominent metatarsal heads
- Increased pain during mid-stance and propulsion phases of walking, as body weight is shifted forward onto forefoot
- Feels deep bruise, walking on rocks under ball of foot
- Worsens when walking/standing barefoot on a hard surface, poorly cushioned shoes.
Associated condition:
- Tight toe extensor muscles
- Tight Achilles tendon
- Change or unusual levels or physical activity, landing games
- Hammertoe deformity
- A high arch
- Ballet / Gymnas
- Tip Toeing Gait

What are the common tests used to identify Metatarsalgia ?
- Foot Posture Index
- Tight Achilles tendon, reduced dorsiflexion
- Overpronated (Flat Feet) / Oversupinated (High Arch) foot
- Tenderness/positive Tinel sign over major nerve trunks
