Jaw pain is a common problem that everyone will experience in life.
However, once dentist has cleared the Jaw infection, tooth problems,
who should we consult for the jaw pain?

Physiotherapy!!!
Benphysio can treat jaw pain
well.
The key to treat Jaw Pain / Jaw Locked,
is the mastoid process behind the jaw.
Mastoid process serves as bony attachments of few neck muscles,
Sternocleido Mastoid SCM
Splenius Capitis
Longissimus Capitis

Via our unique assessment,
we are here to help to figure out
which are the muscles that strike your mastoid process
and causes jaw lock / jaw pain,
also, how severe your jaw joint property.
(Don't forget that Jaw is a joint with capsule & held by ligaments)

Bottom, we gonna teach you the
3 causes
of jaw pain / jaw lock.

cause 1:
Sternocleidomastoid SCM
muscle that becomes prominent if you push your head forward,
therefore, anyone with poking chin posture will have high prevalence

when our head is forwarded (computer, handphone),
we are putting the SCM in stiffness position;
Stiff SCM muscles will leads to high pressure onto mastoid process,
consequently impacted the Jaw biomechanical function.

Cause 2:
Rounded shoulder can lead to Jaw Pain as well,
when shoulder blades are misaligned,
Levator scapulae muscle becomes stiffen.

All these rounded shoulder,
are due to stiffness of deep chest muscles -
pectoralis minor
and Short Head Biceps (SHB)

similar symptoms,
you may suffer morning neck stiffness when wake up,
due to stiff / spasm Levator Scapule muscle
Levator scapule attached to C1 C2 C3 C4,
stiffness of this muscle leads to pressure at the attachment C1-C4,
subsequently impaired the Jaw's mechanical function.

cause 3:
Another muscle that attached to mastoid process,
is Splenius Capitis
and Longissimus Capitis
Both are extension of Trunk muscles (Erector Spinae),
originate from Sacrum bone,
to Mastoid Process of skull.

Erector Spinae is the
Muscle that attached from sacrum, low lumbar,
to thoracic & skull bone
When someone has poor posture with
Kyphotic Upper Back (hunch)
& Lordosis Lower Back
The Erector Spinae will stiffen as it is working against Gravity,
Subsequently, it will leads to tension at attachment at mastoid process,
eventually will leads to Jaw Biomechanical Dysfunction,

Should involve the myorelease of Erector Spinae muscle,
from Scarum bone,
all the way until the mastoid process of skull.

Last, but not least,
Treatment needs to include the 2 important muscles that controlt the Jaw movements,
Masseter muscle
Temporalis muscle
At the end of treatment session,
Joint mobilisation will be implemented to
increase the Jaw joint space
as well as to align the Jaw socket.

Wry Neck / Acute neck pain |
Symptoms:
Myth: It is not due to the ‘wet pillow’ or ‘wet hair’. It's a problem with your shoulder and neck. Even in pain, slowly turn towards pain site as an exercise. Physio Explanation: When it happens for first time, it can resolve within couple of hours. When it gets severe (recurrent), it takes days to recover. Do not force to turn to pain site, it will cause more pain then relief. BENPHYSIO says: Ice it, while calling us for an appointment. To your surprise, acute neck pain often attack the non-dominant upper limbs. |
